WELCOME TO AUNTIE'S

Ask-a-loha (FAQs)

QUESTIONS

Auntie Karen goes beyond traditional childcare by creating a beautiful space where children are free to explore, learn, and grow without interruptions.

Need more information?

Are you licensed?

Yes, I am licensed by the State of Colorado as a Family In-home Childcare Home. I am currently licensed for 6 children at a time.

Do you have faith based learning?

Auntie Karen's House is not a faith based learning program at this time.

What makes this different from other programs?

This play‑based program isn’t just another childcare program — it’s a living, breathing extension of who I am and what I want to offer children, including my own. Shaped by my Colorado roots, a decade in Hawai‘i, and my commitment to child-led learning.

Do you use phones, tablet learning or computers for programming?

No. This program is childhood unplugged.

Is it messy?

Yes, we get messy. Children have a lot of freedom at Auntie's house. Paints, mud, gardening, sandpit, markers, coloring, water play, cooking, mud-kitchen play and making their own paper are ALL part of our daily routine. Some days are messier than others.

Your littles will come home tired, and possibly sticky or dirty. All because childhood should be unplugged!

What about the weather?

Kiddos have as much outdoor time as possible - I monitor the temperatures and inclement weather conditions. I ask families to send littles with a variety of clothing to keep them comfortable in all elements. I also ask for a change of clothes if water play gets really splashy!

What ages do you accept?

Specializing in children ages 2–5.

Our program is built for children who can play independently for extended time.

Minimum age accepted for our program is about 22 months.

What are they learning?

I have been homeschooling my children for 8 years, which I use as a roadmap for the preschool. We learn about everything! Especially life. Children have daily opportunities for life skills to be learned - like putting on their own socks, or zipping up a jacket. I offer time for children to learn independence at their own pace.

Every 2 weeks we have a core topic: example rainbows, clouds, dinosaurs. The home will be decorated and ready with curriculum on the subject - but we will also have free play options, puzzles, crafts included to work on literacy and mathematics; all at age appropriate levels.

Kiddos learn the best when playing - it might look like 'play' during school hours but they are practicing their social skills, problem solving skills and other important milestone developments to prepare them for Kindergarten.

When do you offer tours?

Late afternoons or Fridays we offer time for new families to tour the home. Tours are between 45-60 minutes.

**I do not offer tours during hours when enrolled children are present.

How is tuition paid?

Tuition is due monthly. 1st day of the month via Venmo, Cash or Check.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes! We offer 10% discount for the 2nd child attending the program.

How do I enroll?

Aloha! It starts with a tour!
